Kengewa coach Charles Ngovi praying for miracle in Bamburi Rugby Super Series

Kengewa are praying for a miracle as they prepare for their final group game of the Bamburi Rugby Super Series.

The Franchise side, which comprises of university teams from Kenya, has only amassed two points from their past two games. They desperately need to win their last game against Mamba at the RFUEA ground, if they are to stand a chance of qualifying for the Main Cup semis.

Speaking to Feverpitch, Kengewa coach Charles Ngovi admitted their fate is partly out of their hands given that they have to wait for Ndovu’s result if to confirm their position.

Ndovu already have seven points from their past two games and should they lose without gaining a point, while Kengewa win with a bonus point, only then can Kengewa qualify for the semi-finals.

“It is not up to us, at this point,” said Ngovi, “We have to win our game against Mamba with a greater margin than how Ndovu beat them. Then we pray that Ndovu lose their game in Kampala,” he added.

Ndovu beat Mamba 53-0 in Nakuru and Ngovi and his troops will have to be in top form to beat that margin.

Even though the prospects look bleak for Kengewa, Ngovi has refused to give up on their ambition and have vowed to fight for qualification to the best of their abilities.

“Kampala is not an easy place to go to,” he said. “That is where Rwenzori are strongest and Ndovu are bound to have a difficult time there,” he added.

First loss

It is in Kampala that Kengewa lost their first game of this year’s competition, going down 25-14 in a tough duel. Ngovi has now squarely focused his energies on the Mamba game where he is confident of a positive score.

“When we do what we have trained for, we are a very efficient team and now we just need to stick to what is working for us and I believe we can post a very good result against any opponent,” he said.

Meanwhile in Pool A, Nyumbu and Papa will rotate their squads for the last group game, though both hope to get top spot in the group.
