President William Ruto has assured the police service of tools to fight modern crimes.

While reasserting his commitment to improve the working conditions, the President said recommendations by a task force appointed to look into the welfare of security officers would guide reforms in the service.

"Their report and recommendations shall chart a clear and actionable path to significant improvement of the terms of service and employment of our policemen and women and prison officers," said the Head of State.

Speaking during the graduation of 1,995 Administration Police officers at the Embakasi college, Nairobi, the President reiterated his pledge to provide good housing.

At the same time, Ruto said police officers will join his project to plant 10 million trees.

"I want you when you leave here and join your families for one month leave to plant at least 30 trees each, and please pass this message to the police recruits who graduated at Kiganjo yesterday (Tuesday) and the GSU ones who will graduate tomorrow (Thursday)," he said.

The President emphasised the move to delink police from politics, noting the directive to make the service independent from the Office of the President.

Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome urged the officers to serve without fear or favour, and regardless of one's status.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and AP boss Noor Gabow also attended the event.
