Tanzanian street sign bearing the name of Victor Wanyama Vandalized

Tanzanian residents in Dar es Salaam were shocked to wake up on Sunday morning to find a street sign bearing the name of Victor Wanyama uprooted.

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama was on Saturday honored by Tanzanians by naming a road in Ubungo Municipal Council after him.

According to Swahili Times, debates over whether “the right procedure was followed” to name the road after Wanyama led to the vandalism. 

In their twitter post, furious looking protester can be seen carrying the uprooted street sign- that angered many twitter users.

One commenter wrote: Kitu kibaya kuwahi kutokea tangu nizaliwe. Sasa kung'oa inaleta maendeleo gani? [Something wrong has ever happened since I was born. What development does uprooting now bring about?]

Another added: Dic z a shame tatizo sias zimezd [This is a shame, politics is too much]

The Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder, who took home this year’s OLX Social Media Awards (Soma) -the Sports Personality was holidaying in Tanzania before the start of the new season.
