Golfers back to action after a break from Magical Kenya Open

Golfers return to action this weekend in various Golf Club Courses around the Country just after a short break from the 2023 Magical Kenya Open Championships that ended at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi last week.

Majority of Coast Golfers will on Saturday be crossing the Likoni Ferry early enough to join their Colleagues for The Diamond Leisure Golf Resort Club's Lady Captain (Vanda Harries) Prize tournament set to start from 9am.

This day long 18 holes event to bid farewell to the outgoing Club Lady Captain Harries has attracted 150 Golfers who are expected to battle it out it on the 18 holes championships Course overlooking the Blue Indian Ocean waters.

Harries will be the first to tee off in a two ball flight alongside the Club's former Lady Captain Carol Mokaya and the last flight of Harold Kampa,Amar Harija and Eva Kariuki will be the last teeing off at 1.50pm.

Harries said some of the Golfers includes others from various clubs around the Country and promised that the day will feature a lot of fun and many prizes lined up for the winners.

"Am assuring the Golfers that the course is in good condition, playing well and lots of prizes is up for grabs. They will equally enjoy the cool Indian breeze from the nearby Indian Ocean waters,"said Harries.

At the Ruiru Sports Club , the culmination of a week-long activities that included MSMEs and Exhibition Gala enters its final day on Saturday with the Club's Captain (Jessy Ndegwa) Prize Golf Tournament.

This event that celebrates the Club's 100 years since inception and marks the end of term of office of the Club's Captain Ndegwa has attracted 200 Golfers with at least 50 Kenya's top professionals.

The Activities kicked off on Monday hosting 80 caddies followed on Tuesday with a curtain raiser Casino tournament and yesterday on Thursday a field 250 golfers played the Captain's Club Night.

From Friday, the Professionals join Amateurs for a two days action battling it out for prize money in a 36 holes seeded event that ends on Saturday.

The event has been sponsored by among others Family Bank,CIC Group, and Glenlivet one of the top brands by Pernod Ricard, the world's second-biggest spirits group.

Some of the professionals includes Samuel Njoroge (Railways), Simon Ngige (Thika), Erick Ooko (Golf Park), C J Wangai (Sigona), Sullivan Muthugia (Ruiru), Edwin Mundanyi (Vet Labs), Dismas Indiza (Mumias), Mike Kisia (Vet Lab) and Tony Omuli (Golf Park).

The amateur list to watch among them are Mike Karanga (Kiambu), John Lejirma (Railways), Bernard Omondi (Ruiru) and Frank Munyua (Ruiru).

"The course is in good shape despite the adverse weather. We have put together an exciting experience for everyone," said Ndegwa.

At Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa on Saturday, Golfers will be playing a worthy cause for the Society in the Friends of the Academy Golf Tournament dubbed " Play Golf , Change a Life," aimed to raise funds for the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa's Talent Identification Programme (TID).

Abdul Samji, one of the Friends of the Academy said the highlights of the event that began in 2019 will be transforming a young person's life through the power of education by raising funds to support the beneficiaries.

"Last year we had 184 golfers at the event and we expect this year to be bigger. This programme identifies exceptional Grade 6 students across Kenya from marginalized backgrounds and provides them with a full scholarship for seven years to attend the Academy, which is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, "said Samji.

He noted that through this event and continuous support from the Golfers they will be able to support the Academy by continuing to produce global leaders of tomorrow.

Prizes lined up for the golfers include vouchers from Hotels, Restaurants, Appliance manufacturers and so many more.

And the Railways Invitation Golf Tournament takes place also on Saturday at the Kenya Railways Golf Club in the Capital City of Nairobi.

The event that kicks off from 6.40 am will be played on a Greensomes format and has jointly been sponsored by the Communication Authority of Kenya, Kenya Wines and Laser Insurance Brokers.
