Covid-19: Kenya records 1,354 new cases as 400 recover in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 1,354 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 5,331 raising the country's caseload to 298,501.

In a statement on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 25.4 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 3,042,313.

Out of the new patients, 667 are female, whereas 687 are male, with the youngest carrier being a one-year-old child and the oldest aged 105.

Of the new cases, 252 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 551 cases, Migori 140, Turkana 80, Nyeri 75, Kilifi 59, Siaya 56, Nakuru and Kiambu 46 cases each, Kakamega 40, Mombasa 36, Uasin Gishu 34, Machakos 28, Murang’a 22, Kisumu and Kwale 17 cases each, Kitui 15, Garissa 12, West Pokot and Meru 10 cases each, Homa Bay 8, Makueni, Embu and Kajiado 7 cases each, Lamu, Taita Taveta and Busia 4 cases each, Bomet and Kericho 3 cases each, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga and Nandi 1 case each.

Total recoveries now stand at 254, 115 after 400 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours 216 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 184 from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 204,806 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 49,309 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 1,029 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 23,667 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fifty-three (53) patients are in the ICU with 21 of them are on ventilatory support while 26 are on supplemental oxygen. Six patients are under observation.

Another 271 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 248 of them in the general wards while 23 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 10,121,263 Covid-19 vaccines across the country according to the Ministry of Health latest records.

Of these, 5,871,177 have been partially vaccinated while 4,215,806 have been fully vaccinated.

Another 21, 065 doses have been administered to those between 15 and 18 years while 13,215 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 55.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.5 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.
