Father Kailesh and Son Shay defying unfamiliar weather to beat golfers at Nyali

Home Club’s Kailesh Chauhan and Son Shay Chauhan went home smiling after teaching Golfers a lesson at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The handicap 24 Kailesh carded a sterling 40 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner beating a team of 169 golfers in the Inaugural Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Coast Region Golf tournament

His 12 years old Son Shay playing off handicap 21 added pride to the Chauhan family after returning a score of 38 count back points to emerge the best junior of the day.

“We are a proud family after both of us claimed victories especially with today’s unfamiliar cold weather, rains and strong winds making the course very challenging, but we fought on.

“I placed my Golf balls nicely, took my time, and I think that made a real difference. I would like to thank my team-mates from the bottom of my heart and everyone else for making the day enjoyable, “said Kailesh.

Omar Lewa playing off handicap 7 brought a seven over par 78 gross to emerge the gross winner while handicap 25 Swaleh Omar on a count back of 39 points was the Men winner after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 23 Rimal shah and handicap 25 Michael Sangoro carded 38 count back points to sit third.

The Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Coast Representative Teresia (Terry) Odoo playing off handicap 15 took command of the Ladies carding 39 points to emerge the Lady winner beating second placed handicap 26 Hellen Wanjiru by a two points difference.

The Best senior on 36 points was handicap 22 Aaron Kikuvi while handicap 25 Raju Patel on 37 points and handicap 37 Lawrence Njenga with 35 points were the Best KAM Member and the Best KAM staff winners respectively, as handicap 13 Raajveer Dhanjal recorded 38 points to emerge the best sponsor winner.

Coast Senior Golf Veteran Sal Davis playing off handicap 31 was the High handicappers man winner on 41 points and the same for the lady was scooped by handicap 37 Susan Airo who had a score of 39 points.

Handicap 27 Tony Mintos on a count back score of 22 points and handicap 26 Salim Taib with 23 points were the Best first and second nine winners respectively.

The day long 18 holes stable ford tournament organized by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Coast region was graced by Chief Justice Martha Koome who is also a Golfer and a member of Vetlab Sports Club.

It was jointly supported by Sarova white sands Beach Resort and Spa, Computer Pride, Andy Golf Pro Shop, Alpha Logistics, Seco, Kitui Flour Mills, Lake Nakuru Lodge, Kericho Gold, KBL and the Consulate General of the Republic of Uganda, Mombasa, Kenya.

Club Chairman Kamami Njoroge acknowledged the presence of Chief Justice Koome, the Golfers and all the Sponsors for the success of the Inaugural tournament brought to the Club.

“Please come back next year and also make this event an annual event here at the Club and We shall always be ready to host your back, “said Kamami.

Kamani led guests and all the Golfers to observe a minute of silence to Industrialist and Philanthropist Hasmukh Patel aka Hasuu of Mombasa Cement who died last Thursday in Mombasa saying the late not only supported the Club in many ways but the whole of Mombasa County and the Country at large.

KAM Coast Chairman Abdalla Athman thanked the Club for hosting them, promising that they will be back next year and also make the event an annual tournament.
