Burugu teams up with Mathu to lift 2024 Tilly Rose Bowl Trophy

Watson Burugu teamed up with Wanjiku Mathu to clinch the 2024 Tilly Rose Bowl Trophy after emerging the overall winners in the finals and Subsidiary’s tournament played at VetLab Sports Club, over the weekend.

The Duo played their hearts out to claim the trophy after beating the team of Michael Kimuthia and Bernard Mandere 4/3.

The subsidiary winner on 43 points was handicap 28 Stanley Gachoki, while handicap 23 Aggrey Sang, on 42 points was the runner-up. Handicap 5 Sharma Kushangra was third with 40 points.

Elsewhere, handicap 18 Geoffrey Waburi beat a team of 145 golfers to emerge the overall winner of this year’s Gachichio Insurance Brokers and ICEA Lion co-sponsored golf tournament at the par 72 Kiambu Golf Club course.

Handicap 23 F.N.Ndgewa was the Men winner on 40 points, while handicap 26 C.W.Mwangi took up the runner-up slot on a countback score of 38 points, tying on points with third-placed handicap 17 O.G.Githinji.

Ken Mwaura was the gross winner after carding 83 gross, while handicap 31 Mugwe Manga produced 35 points to win the Sponsor’s prize.

The Lady’s prize was scooped by handicap 27 Jillian Mwanza, who carded 38 points. Handicap 22 Grace Githere settled for the runner-up slot with 36 points.

Handicap 37 Joseph Mwariri brought 38 points to win the Subsidiary prize as handicap 20 Don Mwaura, on 32 points, was the senior category winner.

Handicap -2 Elvis Muigua, with 31 points, was the junior winner.

The Guest winner’s prize on 38 points was scooped by handicap 28 Patriciah Ngahu.

ICEA LION Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Philip Lopokoiyit thanked the club, golfers and their partners for making the day’s event thrilling, enjoyable and successful.

He pointed out that having been established in 1916 with just three holes, Kiambu Golf Club shares a history akin to ICEA LION, which traces its roots back to 1895, playing an integral role in shaping East Africa's commercial landscape.
