Kenya's Professional Indiza leads golfers in the 2023 'Mulembe' Tourney

Kenya’s long hitting Golf Professional Dismas Indiza will be joining other 28 colleagues in this year’s annual ‘Mulembe’ Golf tournament set for the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County from Friday.

The Professionals drawn from various Clubs around the Country will be playing for a share of Sh500, 000 prize money in a two days’ tourney.

They will be joined by an estimated 250 non-professional golfers on Saturday where an array of prizes has also been set for them including installing the winner’s name in an honors board at the Club house.

This will be the 5th Edition of the event’s Coast tour and third to be played at the Sea-link organized by the Mulembe golfing Society after the other two that was played at Nyali Golf and Country club Course.

All eyes will be on Indiza, who fired a round total 277gross winning the just concluded 2023 Uganda Open at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala and registering his seventh record Victory starting from 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012,2018 and now 2023.

The Kakamega based Golfer arrived in Mombasa on Wednesday ahead of the event and assured his supporters that he was prepared and confident of playing well.

 “I know my colleagues are good but I will focus on my swings, putting and playing a relaxed game aiming for good results. We leave the rest to God,” said Indiza.

The professionals registered to participate are Mike Kisia, Greg Snow, Samuel Njoroge, Jeff Kubwa,

Wahome Matthew, Kopan Timbe, C.J. Wangai, Joseph Karanja, Daniel Nduva and G.Felix.

Others are Sullivan Muthugia, R.Owiti, J.Okello, Hesbon Kutwa, J.Kisia, J.Mburu, J.Karichu, James Muigai,

Ooko Erick, D saikwa, Kuyanda Nelson Simwa, Isaiah Omwoyo, D.Wakhu, S.Kahindi, J.Davis, A.Galgalo and Edwin Mudanyi.

Home Club’s Andrew Miheso, the event's non-professional defending champion who was last year crowned as the King of ‘Mulembe’ confirmed that he was more than ready to defend the Crown, come Rain, and come Sunshine.

“Oh yes, I am prepared , I know it will not  be easy judging the entry of golfers across the country, but this is my course, I know how the wind behaves and am ready  for anything,” said Miheso.

The Society’s Chairman Eric Nyongesa who was recently elected and took over office from Francis Okwara said the Western Kenya Community was thrilled to be back in Mombasa for the event that promises to be a big one and will also use the occasion for his homecoming celebration.

He said that the Mulembe Golfing Society tourney which draws its members from Western region, and focusing in bringing all the Kenyan communities together by playing the sport of Golf, is staging the event on Friday and Saturday and is being supported by ICEA Lion Group, ARTHA Insurance brokers, Tudor Health Care and Friends of Mulembe.

“We have  the professionals from various clubs around the Country ,Prominent  Politicians Like Hon.Fred Ikana,Dr.Mukhisa Kituyi and Sammy Itereme  also coming and I promise all will enjoy the day  including  the ‘Isukuti” dancers entertaining golfers at hole 19.Other prominent leaders in the Country are also expected ,” said Nyongesa who is also a member of both Mombasa and Nyali Golf Clubs.

Club Captain James Gitonga said they are thrilled to once again host the event and that the course was in an excellent condition and playing well except for the usual unfriendly strong winds blowing into the course from the nearby Indian Ocean waters.

“This is the third time the tourney has been running here and this time it has set aside a Prize money of Kshs 500,000 for the first 20 winners and an Honors board has also been introduced at the Club house meaning the winner’s name will be edged on the walls of the club which is also their home base at the Coast, “said Gitonga.
