Odoo beats all odds to triumph at the Uganda Airlines Tourney at Nyali

Coast veteran lady golfer Teresia Odoo overcame a moody state to triumph in the Uganda Airlines Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off hand 17, Odoo who is also a former lady Captain of the Club and the current Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Coast representative carded an excellent score of 43 points to emerge the overall winner.

"It has been a dry period of winning for me for quite a long time but today I finally made it .This started with my photo trending in the social media placed by husband Odoo before we teed off. He looked at my face and advised me to put my head down, relax, it will be fine and it worked out. Actually it was a stressful morning for me but when I started getting pars in some holes, then I knew things were working for better results, "said Odoo.

Odoo was awarded a trophy and an Economy class return ticket, Mombasa-Entebbe (Uganda) by the

Uganda Airlines who were the sponsor of the day long 18 holes stable ford tournament under their theme "Fly the Crane to the Pearl of Africa"

The tourney that featured more than 40 Kenyan Parliamentarians with their Ugandan colleagues was graced with a total of 150 golfers from the home Club, Coast Golf Clubs and others from across the Country.

Handicap 2 William Kaguta was the Best Gross winner on a four over par 75 gross and the handicap 18 Sanjay Kotecha emerged the Men winner with a count back score of 40 points.

Kotecha had tied on the same score with men runners up placed handicap 9 Omar Lewa and taking the third slot on 39 points was handicap 19 Sammy.M.Kamau.

Jung Lee playing off handicap 22 survived on count back to claim the Lady's title on 39 points and won herself a trophy, some goodies and an economy class return ticket Mombasa-Entebbe, courtesy of the sponsor.

She closed the day on the same score with handicap 9 Susan Stokes and Lawyer Divinah Ongaki playing off handicap 24 returned 34 points to sit third.

The best senior prize with 37 points and junior prize with 41 points were won by handicap 24 Ijaz Sheikh and Aydan Jamal respectively.

Handicap 32 Rose Mudibo brought 39 points to carry the Guest title and Mombasa Radio journalist cum golfer Joan Kimani playing off handicap 47 was the high handicapper's winner on 38 points

Dimple Kimani playing off handicap 23 won the first nine prize on a count back score of 22 points while the second nine prize with the same points went to handicap 25 Dr.Dinesh Soni on the same score. Handicap 30 Hon.Josephat Tumwesigye from Uganda parliament managed 17 points from both nine to fly back home with the Piga Mingi prize.

Presiding over the prize giving ceremony, Omar Lewa representing the Club Captain Dinesh Sasan thanked the sponsors for choosing the club and the golfers for turning up in large numbers to make the day successful.

"Please be assured that our course and hospitality are up to standard, and I'm sure our sponsor for today will come back next year, "said Lewa.

Uganda Airlines Country Manager Peggy Macharia, who was flanked by Uganda Tourism Board's Anthony Ochieng said they were thrilled to bring the successful event to the Coast to promote the Flight's Mombasa-Entebbe route and that they were satisfied with the large turn out and massive support from the Coast residents.

"This event is to create awareness so that many Ugandans and Kenyans can now fly in both Countries easily to explore opportunities in Business , Sports and Tourism and Iam greatly happy it was an enjoyable day here ," said Macharia.

At Vetlab sports club in the same day handicap 24 Karoki Mathu carded 4 a count back score of 41 points to emerge the overall winner of the Tononoka golf tourney sponsored by Tononoka groups.

He had tied with Victor Onyango playing off handicap 7 who was the Overall runners up while handicap 17 Mavji Gorassia and handicap 19 Kihuhua Njoroge were the men runners up and third placed respectively after both also finished with 40 points each.

The lady winner on 39 points was handicap 26 Jane Wokabi with a score of 39 points beating handicap 4 Mercy Nyanchama to the runners up slot on five points difference and the Junior winner's prize was claimed by handicap 10 Kiunjiri Mathu with a score of 37 points.

Adnan Zaidi playing off handicap 18 won the Guest prize with 39 points while handicap 12 Caleb Kositany on 37 points and handicap 11 Neer Shah with 36 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.
