Githaiga registers first post Covid-19 victory at Nyali

Tirus Githaiga braved the current Coastal scorching sun and strong winds from the nearby Indian Ocean to register his first major post Covid-19 victory in the Kenya Ports Authority’s Corporate Golf tournament.

It was not an easy win after handicap 12.9 Githagia carded a double 20 points in both nines to survive on a countback score total of 40 stable points.

“I am delighted to be at the podium tonight. I have been practicing hard for this event and I’m happy to be the winner,” said Githaiga.

Githaiga had tied with on the same score with handicap 11.6 Peter Gathuri, who was the Men winner, while handicap 24.5 Evans Murumba, on 39 points and handicap 19.5 Paul Munyao with 38 points, were the Men runner-up and third placed respectively.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) sponsored the day-long 18 holes stableford tournament that attracted 250 golfers from the home club, Nyali, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi, Nyahururu, Royal Nairobi, Muthaiga, staff and guests of the sponsor with valid handicaps.

Petronilah Kale, playing off handicap 30.4, posted 37 points to emerge the Lady winner, two points ahead of handicap 20.5 Provia Odhiambo.

The Staff prize was won by handicap 18 Japhet Obonyo on 37 points, while handicap 15.5 Charles Odoo walked home with the runner-up prize after producing 33 points.

KPA acting Managing Director John Mwangemi said they were grateful for the club to host the tournament. He also thanked golfers for attending the event.
