FKF Premier League: KCB set sights on top four

As the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League edges into its 24th round, teams are gearing up for a weekend filled with pivotal matches that could redefine the standings.

KCB FC, ranked 10th in the FKF league standings, will face Shabana FC today (Friday) in a bid to move up the ladder and make their way into the top four.

KCB coach Bernard Mwalala is ready to guide the Ruaraka-based side to victory in their crucial encounter against Shabana FC at Kenyatta Stadium.

With 30 points and a recent draw against Murang’a Seal, the team is under pressure to accumulate as many victories as possible.

Mwalala expressed his confidence as he called on his side to secure a win and help keep their top-four ambitions alive. Despite being a team in transition, Mwalala's call to action is clear: it's time to elevate their play.

“We need to be confident as we take on our opponents. The season is still far from over and we intend to make it to the top four. I know we are in a transitioning period, but it is time to up our game and secure as many wins as possible,” said Mwalala.

KCB's defense, likely consisting of Haniff Wesonga, Nashon Wekesa, Francis Oduor, and Herit Mungai, will be crucial to their success, with the impressive Festus Shikhalo between the posts.

Having secured two clean sheets and a heroic penalty save in the last league game, Shikhalo's form could be a game-changer.

The midfield sees a potential reshuffle, with Derrick Otieno poised to join forces with Brian Ochieng and Maurice Ojwang, thanks to their standout performance against Murang’a Seal.

Although the team has struggled to capitalise on created opportunities, Mwalala remains hopeful, acknowledging that their solid defense and competitive edge could trouble Shabana FC.

They will, however, be without their striker Shadrack Wamalwa who has an ankle injury, and Victor Omondi, who faces a long-term absence owing to a torn ACL.
