Support grassroots football to grow talent

The best way to celebrate soccer legend, Pele, is to make the development of football a priority in Kenya. Government must develop a comprehensive plan to put Kenya on the path to becoming a football powerhouse by 2030.

We must focus on grassroots football for our national teams to prosper. Kenya has a lot of talent that can be nurtured. Indeed, Kenya can realise her dreams of reaching the world cup finals if the nurturing of young talent is made a priority.

We have immense talent in the country, and if it is discovered early and nurtured, we've got the potential to scale the heights and excel at the regional and global levels.

There are plenty of football teams in the communities especially in informal settlement like Mathare and Korogocho. However, very little has been done to fund and harness grassroots football.

There is no well-articulated plan for grassroots football growth. The Government should come up with such. Lest we forget, Pele rose from an impoverished Brazilian slum to become king of the beautiful game.
