A family of three perished in a fire that razed their house in Homa Bay county on Thursday, August 31.

The victims were Kennedy Oluoch, 41, his wife Vivian Oluoch, 29, and their three-year-old son Denmark Oluoch. They lived in Kalithe Village, South Kagan Location in Rangwe Sub-county.

The fire broke out in the morning when the family was inside the house. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Lithe Nyauke, Kennedy’s father, said he saw the flames from his farm and rushed to the scene. He was joined by other villagers who tried to break into the house but failed.

"We arrived in his home when the house was already overwhelmed by the fire. We also tried to open the door but it was locked from inside,” Nyauke said.

The bodies were found in a burnt bed in the house. Kepher Otieno, Kennedy’s brother, said he noticed a machete near the bodies.

“We are not sure of what happened but there was a panga near the bodies,” Otieno said.

The family appealed to the police to investigate the incident and bring justice to their kin if foul play was involved.

Homa Bay County Police commander Samson Kinne said they had launched investigations into the incident.

“Our officers went to the scene and they have started investigating the matter,” Kinne said.

The bodies were taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
