Kenya's basketball player Mercy Wanyama has joined the Spanish League 2 side El Cortegada, according to Spanish media reports.

Wanyama, 29, previously played for Avilés Basketball Sports Group (ADBA) Avilés in the last two seasons and will join Cortegada following the departure of Teodora Saric of Serbia who left the club in December.

Statistically, Wanyama produced an average of 7.7 points per game in the 2019/2020 season.

Wanyama comes from a sporting family that includes football stars Victor Wanyama, McDonald Mariga, winner of Champions League title with Inter Millan and their father Noah, who played for AFC Leopards.

Wanyama hopes to help Cortegada survive relegation. The team is currently second last in the log.

In Kenya, Wanyama played in the Kenya Basketball Federation’s Women Premier League for Equity Hawks from 2016 to 2018 before becoming the first Kenyan to play in the Spain Basketball League.

Wanyama also played for Storms, Zetech and KPA.
