Manchester United striker plan revealed – Edinson Cavani impresses in training

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still harbours ambitions of signing Erling Haaland, it has been claimed.

The Red Devils aggressively pursued the Norwegian striker's signature last year when he was still plying his trade with RB Salzburg.

Haaland, however, snubbed the opportunity to move to Old Trafford in favour of a transfer to Borrusia Dortmund, who he's thrived with.

Dortmund's acquisition of the 20-year-old, who they signed last December for a meagre £17million, hasn't end United's interest in signing the prolific striker.

That's according to The Atheltic, who claim United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still eager to acquire his countryman's services.

Solskjaer's bid to sign Haaland ultimately failed due to United's fractured relationship with super-agent Mino Raiola.

However, it's said that "bridges" between Solskjaer and Haaland are still intact. Solskjaer, of course, managed Haaland during his stint as FC Molde boss.

Solskjaer's eagerness to sign Haaland is said to be so strong that he's keen to bring him to The Theatre of Dreams at the "earliest opportunity".

Due to a clause in his contract, United will be able to sign the Dortmund hitman for £75million in the summer of 2022.

The summer of 2022 could be when United new-boy Edinson Cavani departs Old Trafford. The Red Devils signed the Uruguayan striker, who was a free agent, to a one-year deal earlier this month.

United do, however, have the option to extend the 33-year-old's current deal by a further 12 months.

The Old Trafford brass could be tempted to do just that as it's claimed he's "made a very good impression" on everyone at the club in his first week of training at Carrington.

He will, however, have to produce results on the pitch to be rewarded with a 12-month extension.

Cavani and his Manchester United team-mates will be back in action on Wednesday night, welcoming RB Leipzig to Old Trafford for their second Champions League Group H match.
