Gareth Bale enrages Real Madrid fans by pretending to fall asleep during Alaves clash

Gareth Bale has once again risked the wrath of Real Madrid supporters by pretending to fall asleep on the bench during his side's 2-0 win over Alaves on Friday night.

The former Tottenham winger has made just two appearances for Los Blancos since football returned, and was not involved again in the victory which moved Madrid four points clear at the top of La Liga.

Footage showed the player stretched out with a mask over his eyes in the latter stages of the match, and he was also seen laughing after his manager Zinedine Zidane brought on Brahim Diaz from the bench rather than him as his fifth substitute.

One Madrid fan account wrote on Twitter : "Very disrespectful from Gareth Bale. It is clear he doesn't want to be a part of the club anymore. His performances have been terrible of late (when he has played), don't blame Zidane for not playing him."

Another added: "Pretty disrespectful to not even pretend to be interested."

Bale's relationship with Zidane appears to have completely broken down, and there will likely be speculation again this summer over the 30-year-old's future.

The Welshman's contract is not due to expire until June 2022, however, and he has insisted in the past that he is happy to see it out.

His agent Jonathan Barnett told ESPN in January that the player is "going nowhere" and is "very unlikely" to leave Madrid in the summer.

Fans of the club were furious with Bale earlier this season when he celebrated Wales' qualification for the European Championships with a flag which had the message "Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order" written on it.

They have regularly booed him during games, and it seems highly unlikely he will ever be able to win them back over.
