Kenya Football Coaches Association (Kefoca) now wants a special committee to be established to be charged with the vetting and hiring of Harambee Stars coach and his technical bench.

Over the years, the appointment of harambee Stars coach has been the responsibility of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Kefoca chairman Ricky Solomon, however, suggests vetting of Harambee Stars coach, either foreign or local, should be done by a panel of experts. “We are advocating for having a five-man committee that brings the chairman of the federation, Kefoca, Kenya Premier League, Federation’s Technical Committee and Principal Secretary from the Ministry of Sports to vet coaches before they are hired,” said Solomon.

Solomon said the government must be fully involved in the process as it is a major stakeholder in football.

“We cannot be rushing to the government when we have hit a rock for financial support. The government is a major stakeholder in football and it should be involved in the vetting and hiring processes of Harambee Stars technical bench. FKF has been having problems with previous coaches since the hiring process has been a one-man show.

He said coaching involves a lot of communication, planning and networking as well as developing knowledge in a number of areas, saying all these need a committee of experts to come up with the best coach. “Kefoca county officials should also vet coaches of county teams,” said Solomon.
