Peter Nderi fired level par – 72 to emerge the winner during Hon Ngunjiri Wambugu Caddies tournament yesterday.

Playing off handicap 4, Nderi enjoyed top form in the event played under favorable weather that attracted 36 caddies.

On the outward nine, Nderi bogeyed the opener a par-four, parred the second a par-three and went on to bogey the par-five third and the par-four fourth, the courses stroke index one.

He drained a long putt on the par-four fifth and descended on the course’s signature hole “Kerio Valley” with a par but bogeyed the seventh a par-four after his approach shot plugged at the “Bermuda Triangle” from where he chipped it onto the green and two putted for bogey.

Nderi found the fairway off the deck on the eighth, a par-four with 120 yards to the pin. He struck a full pitching wedge that ran past the flag, setting him up for birdie putt which licked out and tapped it in for his fourth par from the first nine.

Bogeying the ninth, a par-three Nderi turned in a fine 37 despite challenges presented by the greens.

Nderi enjoyed a great inward nine which saw him par the 10th a par-four and the 11th a par-three.

He bogeyed the 12th a par-five after his tee-shot had a terrible bounce to the left of the fairway and was tucked behind a tree.

He was well out onto the fairway with his approach shot being arrested by the fringe chipping to two feet off the pin from where he sank it.

A stunning eagle on the par-four 13th, a stroke index two, propelled him as he posted another birdie on the par-five 15th which put him in contention for top honors.

He picked three back-to-back pars on the par-four 16th, par-four 17th and the final hole, a par-three 18th to turn in a fine 35 for a level par finish.

“It was tough for me and the rest for the first nine since the greens hadn’t been trimmed but after the turn, it was all great as the putts just went into the hole. My game generally is good and I’m happy with my win.” said Nderi

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu appealed to the golfers to embrace sports as it is a critical unifying factor.

“Golf is no longer a rich man’s game. Anyone can play it and change his or her fortunes. Give it your all. Let’s use it to embrace peace and love.” said Wambugu.
