Cricket: Coast Gymkhana stun champions Shree Cutchi Leva in T20 tournament

The Coast NCBA T20 cricket tournament was quite unpredictable and exciting at the weekend after former champions Coast Gymkhana Sports Club defeated defending champions Shree Cutchi Leva.

The former champions were at home to stun the title holders by six wickets as the tournament entered third weekend on Sunday.

Shree Cutchi Leva were at 145 for a loss of eight wickets after Sachi Bhudiia scored 61 runs before he was bowled out by Harajsingh Sohah.

Other contributors for Shree were Jayant Varsani and Jignesh Kerai with 17 and 14 runs respectively.

Bolwers for Coast Gymkhana were Kshitij Patel (2/22), Pradyuman Manoj 2/19) and Harajsingh Sohal 1/41.

Chasing, Coast Gymkhana hit the target with a loss of four wickets. Adarsh Sawjani, who was the man-of-the-match and former national cricket team captain Jimmy Kamande, were 41 and 35 runs not out while another former national player Morris Ouma was bowled out at 30 runs by Aksay Bhanderi.

Bowler Bhanderi had 1/30 with Dhiren Gondoria (1/29) and Vinod Thakrani 1/28.

In another match at Mombasa Sports Club, Pakistan Cricket Club defeated Memon cricketers by 10 wickets.

Memon were at 107 for seven with Luqman Bachani and Bashir Kadernani being the outstanding players for Memon with 49 and 23 runs respectively. Bowler Irfan Qureshi had a field day with 3/17.

Pakistan reached the target without a loss of a wicket with the opening pair of Hamza, who was the man-of-the-match and Imran Qazi, driving the match to the end with 72 and 27 runs respectively with a run rate of 12.24 in 8.3 overs.

The league, which is sponsored by NCBA Bank for Sh2.2 million, continues this weekend with four matches on card. 

On Sunday morning, Coast Gymkhana host Mombasa Simba before they return in the afternoon to face hosts Mombasa Sports Club.
