Austria’s Kris Rosenberger leads at Classic Safari Rally

Kabras Sugar racing teams dominated all the three stages but Austria’s Kris Rosenberger maintained the lead for the second day as the 2019 Safaricom East Africa Classic rally return to Kenya today after three days of action in Tanzania.

Rosenberger, navigated by Nicola Bleicher in a Tuthill Porsche, leads in a time of eight hours 21.15.

Former world rally champion Stig Blomqvist, under Team Tido Race Health, completed stage 15 in second place in a time of 8:21.56 with Philip Kadoorie finishing third in a time of 8:43.02. Aslam Khan in a Porsche 911 was the top Kenyan driver in position five in a time of 10:06.51.

Kenya’s Onkar Rai, navigated by Drew Sturrock in a Kabras Sugar Racing Porsche 911, overcame many challenges to win the first and third stages yesterday to to take the overnight lead. Baldev Chager won the second stage.

In stage 13, which marked as the first stage of yesterday’s events at Old Korogwe (53.60km), Onkar clocked a time of 29.37.7 to win.

Italian team of Eugenio Amos, co-driven by Roberto Mametti in a Porsche 911, maneuvered the wet sections to clock 29.48.3 in second position as the reigning champion Stig timed 30.11.2 in third place. Day One fastest driver Osian Pryce from Wales in a Ford Escort timed 30.20.7 in fourth position.

Kenyan champion Baldev Chager, driving his Porsche 911, won stage 14 in a time of 20.24.2. Onkar, the winner of stage one, was pushed to second position after returning 21.02.5 while Osian clocked 21.12.5 in fourth. Briton Kadoorie came in fourth in a time of 21.22.2 while Stig was pushed to fifth.
