Carabao Cup quarter-final draw confirmed as Man Utd and Liverpool discover opponents
Colchester United have a dream trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The lowest-ranked team left in the competition has the chance to cause a seismic upset and reach the final four of the competition.
Colchester have already dumped Crystal Palace and Tottenham out of the competition this year and will be looking to make it a mammoth Premier League hat-trick.
Liverpool have been rewarded for their thrilling win over Arsenal in the last round with a trip to Birmingham to face Aston Villa.
The date for that game is still to be decided, with Liverpool away on FIFA Club World Cup duties during the dates where the tie is set to be played.
Reigning champions Manchester City will visit League One minnows Oxford United - a repeat of a tie from their run to the trophy last season.
Carabao Cup quarter-final draw
Oxford United vs Manchester City
Manchester United vs Colchester United
Aston Villa vs Liverpool
Everton vs Leicester
Ties to be played week beginning December 16 - although the EFL are in discussion with Liverpool over a potential date for their tie given their Club World Cup involvement.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are waiting on a date from the EFL for their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie after manager Jurgen Klopp threatened to pull out of the competition.
“If they don't find an appropriate place for us, not 3am on Christmas Day, then we don't play it," declared the Liverpool boss.
“They have to make that decision. You have to think about these things.
“If you have a fixture list where one team cannot be part of all the games, then you have to think about the fixture list.
“Hopefully it starts now. I really think that's fair, and this problem is obvious now. We will not be the victim of this problem. “We play tonight, we wanted to win it, we did that, and if they don't find a proper date for us, then we cannot play the next round and whoever is our opponent will go through.
“Or Arsenal play them.”
However, Arsenal will not play in the quarter-finals if Liverpool do pull out - instead Aston Villa would receive a bye to the semi-finals.
