Kenya’s top seven players are ready for battle in the grueling Bwana Beg Polo championships that begin tomorrow at the Northern Kenya Polo Club, in Timau.

These players have gained vast experience having represented Kenya in numerous international championships.

The seven are; handicap 5 Jammie Murray, Casmir Gross (4.5), George Mc Kork (3.5), Craig Millar (3.5), Richard Stonewigg (3), Tarquin Gross (3) and Archie Voorspuy (2.5).

The players will be pooled in different groups in the fixtures that will be released today afternoon ahead of the three-day tournament that begins tomorrow.

According to the tournament director George Mc Kork, the fixtures will be released once they are approved by relevant bodies of Kenya Polo Association.

“It has been hectic but fixtures will be released by the end of today (tomorrow) for all players to know their teammates and plan ahead in all the matches,” Mc Cork told Standard Sports.

Tarquin Gross predicted a tough tournament coming at a time when the national junior team is in Zambia for the Lusaka Championships.

The team of five players (four and a reserve player) is scheduled to train on Zambian horses today and tomorrow before the battle royale commences on Saturday.

The team includes handicap 2 Jadini Nzomo, handicap 1 Ben Stonewigg, Tom Stonewigg(0.5) and William Millar (0.5) while handicap 0.5 Megan Griffiths is the reserve player.

The conclusion of the Bwana Beg Championships will pave way for two 6-Goal and 14-Goal international championships at Nairobi Polo Club on September 13-15 and September 20-22 respectively, according to Nairobi Polo Club Vice chairman Raphael Nzomo.
