Former national and East Africa Secondary Schools girls’ football champions Archbishop Njenga, Bishop Sulumeti Lugari and Friends School Bukhoholo reigned supreme as curtains came down on this year’s Western Region Term Two games in Bungoma.

The three were the only 2018 champions who remained standing after Kakamega High School's Green Commandos, Malava, St Peter’s Mumias and Moi Girls Nangili failed to defend their titles. Green Commandos relinquished their regional and national football under-19 titles at the county level while 2018 national boy volleyball champions Malava were send packing at Sub-County level.

Archbishop Njenga routed Brenda Girls School 3-0 in the final to retain their title and pick a ticket to the national games set for Kisumu where they long to improve on last year’s second place finish. Violet Wanyonyi netted a brace while Maria Liambila scored one goal to fire their side into nationals.

Bishop Sulumeti’s victory was no fluke as they battled arch rivals and former national and East Africa champions Lugulu. Bishop Sulumeti who secured their second appearance at the national show rallied from behind to beat Lugulu in a five set thriller.

St Peter's were crowned boys' under 19 football champions following their 2-1 win over St Mary’s Kibabii.

New champions were born in the under 16 boys' and girls' categories after last year’s winners St Peter's Mumias and Moi Girls Nangili surrendered their crowns. Koyonzo and Maeni won by an identical 1-0 score in their respective boys' and girls' finals. Koyonzo from Kakamega beat Likhuna from Bungoma. In the girls' contest, Maeni from Bungoma avenged their boys’ loss edging Kakamega’s Mwira.

In Kisumu, Nyakach Girls High School stormed onto girls' football finals in the Nyanza Region after beating Kobala 1-0 in the semifinals at Kisumu Boys yesterday.
