A sports journalist is suspected to have stolen his colleague’s camera lens at a recent function.

According to a source, the lens whose value is estimated at Sh40,000, mysteriously disappeared in the function’s media centre. And that, after a thorough search to no avail, the suspect was confronted. He finally availed the equipment, to the shock of the scribes.

“A colleague left one of his camera lenses with us on the media table as he rushed to take some photos elsewhere.

“On return, the lens was nowhere to be seen. We didn’t know how it disappeared. But after things turned messy at the event, the thief brought back the lens,” the source told OFFSIDE.

Another source told OFFSIDE that the same suspect took off after a camera lens disappeared at another event last year.

“The guy is a thief. Last month, we also lost a lens at an event and he, suspiciously, took off immediately after the presser,” the source said.

Five other journalists also confided in OFFSIDE with claims that the same colleague had stolen their cameras and laptops in recent years.

But one writer is of a different opinion. He says the suspect is a cool guy whose intention is not always to steal but to keep straying properties.

“I know the scribe. He is not a bad person. He can keep your property but not steal from you. If he has, he will give it to you. He is not a thief,” the source said.
