Kenya Rugby Union has postponed its Annual General Meeting which was scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

In a letter to KRU affiliates, Oduor Gangla, the secretary, recorded that the meeting was deferred to a later date by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Arts to facilitate for a Stakeholders meeting with the Cabinet Secretary of Sports.

This comes after senior Kenya 7s players boycotted training with the Shujaa squad ahead of the Hong Kong and Singapore legs of the HSBC World Sevens Series, the reason being they had not received their offer letters.

However, KRU held a meeting with Senior Shujaa players yesterday and settled to terms on a return to work formula for the remaining part of the season.

“The boys are welcome in the team. They will be given an equal opportunity to train and a chance to be selected to play in the remaining legs. We still retain all the players that have been training and playing in the last 6 legs of the 2018/2019 season.” Said Paul Murunga, the Shujaa head coach.

Despite KRU meeting with the Senior players, the players have been reported denying of receiving any letters or offers from the union.

The senior players were said to be offered new contracts earlier with less payments, which they refused to sign until all their issues were settled.

The Kenya 7s have been struggling financially due to lack of a sponsor after Kenya Airways terminated their sponsorship to the team in November 2016.

Shujaa are preparing for the Hong Kong Sevens in April.
