Mombasa’s Saint Charles Lwanga and Shimo La Tewa boys hockey teams qualified for national secondary schools Term One games scheduled for next month.

The two teams won their semifinal matches to advance to today’s final. Josiah Mwatika sounded the boards in the 51st minute to ensure St Charles Lwanga qualified for the final of Coast region secondary schools term one games that ends today at Shimo La Tewa High School and Shanzu Teachers Training College.

In another semi-final, Shimo La Tewa edged out Kilifi’s St Georges 4-1 on flicks after a 1-1 draw 1-1. Shimo La Tewa converted all their flicks as St Georges shot wide. The two teams made it to the national games since host Coast region will be represented by two boys’ and girls’ teams as North Eastern region will not have hockey teams.

In girls’ hockey, champions Bura girls were to play former champions Matuga in the first semi-final while St Johns had a date with Mombasa’s MacMillan.

In rugby 15s, Galana and Dr Krapf were to battle in an-all Kilifi county semi-final while the other semi-final pitted Mombasa’s Shimo La Tewa and Kwale High School. Khamis High of Mombasa narrowly beat Lamu’s and former champions Hongwe 6-5 in the last preliminary match of 15s.

Shimba Hills, New White House School and Manjejeni made it to the semi-finals in girls’ handball.

In boys’ basketball, champions Aga Khan Academy sailed into semi-finals and were to play Kilifi’s Sokoke who beat Shimo La Tewa 53-43 in preliminaries. Mombasa Baptist High School, who defeated Lamu boys 72-40, were to face Shimba Hills in the semi-final.
