Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly held talks with Manchester United over becoming the Red Devils' new manager.

United sacked Jose Mourinho last month and replaced him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a caretaker basis.

Solskjaer has won each of his four games in charge so far including a 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Wednesday night.

But he is scheduled to return to Molde at the end of the season when United will appoint a permanent boss.

Pochettino is top of their hit list and, according to Caught Offside, the two parties have held talks over a potential deal.

The Argentine has even reportedly decided on who he would like his first signing to be at Old Trafford, discussing a potential move for Leicester's James Maddison with United chief Ed Woodward.

But United would need to stump up in the region of £70million to sign the playmaker.

Pochettino, who won 20 caps for Argentina as a player, currently has Spurs second in the Premier League.

He has also led them to the last 16 of the Champions League for the second successive season where they will take on Bayern Munich.

The 46-year-old started his managerial career with Espanyol in 2009 before joining Southampton in 2013.

He has been in charge at Tottenham since 2014 but has not yet won any silverware in north London.
