Real Sociedad midfielder Lucas Sangalli was rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke.

The La Liga club revealed the concerning news on Wednesday night ahead of their Copa del Rey match with Celta Vigo.

Sangalli, who is just 23, was due to be involved in the match but withdrew from the squad with reports suggesting he was ill.

But Sociedad released a statement to confirm Sangalli had been taken to hospital.

"He is now in the Stroke Unit of the Hospital Universitario Donostia, where his progress is being monitored."

A host of clubs have sent their best wishes to Sangalli, including Sevilla and Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao.

Athletic posted: "We hope to see you soon on the pitch, even it means you hurting us again. Stay strong."

Sangalli made his senior debut in August in a 2-1 defeat to Eibar.
