Nakuru RFC’s Monate Akuwei and Henry Ayaa have left the club to join national sevens champions Homeboyz.

The two are expected to join Dee Jays when the new season kicks-off with the Kenya Cup League next month. Nakuru RFC are keen to have new signings.

Team Manager Hillary Kisangi said the two clubs are in talks on the procedure of releasing the players, which must conform to rules of the Kenya Rugby Union.

“Officials of the two clubs are still in talks on the possibilities of releasing the two to join Homeboyz in a process that must strictly adhere to Kenya Rugby Union rules on the transfer of players. We hope to be paid back our dues by the recipient club,” Kisangi said.

Nakuru RFC is set to receive between Sh200,000 to Sh500,000 on the sale of Akuwei who is a member of the national 15s, the Simbas. The club is also expecting between Sh50,000-100,000 on the sale of Ayaa.

Nakuru RFC are also set to lose three other players who are pursuing their university studies. They are Kevin Kioko and N Chirchir who are set to join Daystar University in Athi River and Chris Ojwang’ who moves to Mombasa Polytechnic.

The club signed up former centre and full back Kevin ‘Kichwa’ Omiyo who rejoins Wanyore from Kabras Sugar, centre Churchil Ooko and full back Edmund Agutu from Strathmore Leos.

Nakuru RFC have also signed up Egerton University duo of props Victor Karani and N Kombo. Mitch Ocholla, the Nakuru RFC head coach, said they cannot stop players from seeking greener pastures or venturing into personal interests.
