Cruiser are the North Kenya Rose Bowl Polo champions.
They achieved the feat after defeating Syngenta 8-7 as curtains came down on the North Kenya Rose Bowl Syngenta Polo tournament at the Northern Kenya Polo Club, in Timau, yesterday.
Yesterday, the Cruiser team of handicap 3.5 George McCorkell, Megan Griffiths (0.5), Will Millar (0) and Izzy Stichbury -0.5 were in a class of their own as they maintained their cool to defeat a stubborn Syngenta team of handicap 3 Tarquin Gross, Nick Millar (0.5), Tom Stonewigg (0) and Rowena Stichbury (0).
On their way to victory against Syngenta, Cruiser defeated Dudutech 6.5-4, which was the stronger side.
The Dudutech team members included John Mugambi (1.5), Hamish Hobbs (-1), Magda Jurkowiecka (-1.5) and Mike Mwirigi (-2).
Cruiser’s star started to rise once they defeated Syngenta 4-1 in their first match on Friday before extending it to 7-4 the following day in the round-robin matches.
Syngenta made a comeback in their final match after dismissing the stronger Duductech side 6.5-6.
The tournament attracted a lot of youngsters according to the tournament coordinator Tarquin Gross.
“It was a good tournament and we saw quite a number of youngsters taking part. This is good for the game and the future of polo players,” Gross told Standard Sports.
In the Division B championships, Touchdown emerged victorious after they defeated CBA team of handicap One Oscar Luard, Lochie Stichbury (handicap -1), Mina Stiernblad (handicap -1) and Fredd Kambo (handicap -2).
John Mugambi emerged the top scorer of the tournament with a total of six goals in the three-day competition.
