Gerald Gakima won 42nd RJW Perpetual trophy at the par 72 Kenya Railways Golf Club over the weekend.

The Rosemary Janet Wambui trophy is the oldest golf tournament at the Railways Club and was launched in 1976 by Rose Wambui, one of the clubs’ life members.?  Gakima, who plays off handicap 14, was in tip-top shape, playing a solid round that saw him sink three birdies, six pars, six double bogeys and two double bogeys and played worse on a single hole.

Gakima attributed his win to a stress-free round, a competitive four-ball that included KRGC chairman Laban Gathongo, Timothy Ruhiu, playing off handicap five, and George Muraguri.

“I have been in great form lately, today everything just fell in place. I have been playing in this tournament for the past five years in support of Mama Rosemary,” Gakima said.

“My driving was great and I was hitting the greens on regulation. It was a great feeling since I last won Kibaki Trophy in Nyeri in 2011 with 46 stableford points.”

“Rosemary is an avid golfer who has done a lot to promote the game over the years and the best way to appreciate her is by participating in the RJW Perpetual trophy. It has finally paid off with this win." [ Mose Sammy]
