Homeboyz beat Wanyore to book semi-final berth

Homeboyz RFC advanced to the Impala Floodlit semi-finals after picking a hard fought 37-30 win over Nakuru RFC yesterday.

The Deejays will now face either KCB or Mwamba who were scheduled to face off in another quarter-final tie yesterday.

Nakuru also known as Wanyore broke the deadlock in the 6th minute as Duncan Abuyeka scored from a penalty kick to hand his side a 3-0 lead.

Nakuru got a chance to stretch their lead when they were awarded a second penalty but Abuyeka sent his shot wide. They were soon made to pay for the miss as Homeboyz’ new signing Joseph Amalemba crossed the line for a touch down with Evin Asena converting for a 7-3 lead.

Asena would then put his name on scoresheet again with a penalty midway through the first half as Nakuru struggled to create chances.

Six minutes to half-time, Chrispin Onyango got Nakuru’s first try which was converted by Abuyeka.

Asena then converted Stanley Isogol’s try on the stroke of halftime to ensure the Deejays took a slim 17-13 lead.

Homeboyz did not take much time in stamping their authority in the second half as Asena struck a penalty before converting Mohammed Omollo’s try to hand his side a 27-13 advantage.

Good inter-change of passes between Asena and Isogol set up the latter before Asena slotted in the conversion. Nakuru RFC then responded through John Mbugua’s unconverted try before they werewere temporarily reduced to 14 men after Edwin Anunda was sent to the sinbin .

In a bid to stage a comeback, Wanyore pressed Homeboyz in their own half and were rewarded when Paul Lusesi crossed the whitewash for a try that Abuyeka easily converted.

It was however the 2017 bronze medallists Homeboyz who had the final say as Asena scored a penalty to seal the win for his side.
