Two of the three 2018/2019 SportPesa Premier League promotion slots have been decided and one is up for grabs.
Western Stima and Kenya Commercial Bank have been promoted to next season's top league after securing the two automatic promotion slots in the National Super League ahead of Saturday's season finale.
Leaders Stima (77 points) made a return to topflight football with two matches to spare after beating Coast Stima 1-0 two weeks ago, while the bankers (75) had to wait until last Sunday to end their three-season exile in SPL by claiming the final automatic promotion spot at the expense of joint second placed Nairobi Stima and Ushuru.
Two late second half goals from Dennis Gicheru and Simon Abuko helped the bankers beat a stubborn Talanta at Camp Toyoyo to go seven points clear of their closest rivals and eventually joined Western Stima, who are back to the premier league ahead of the December 8 kick-off.
And with 16th placed Nakumatt having been relegated to the lower tier, focus shifts to the battle for the two-legged promotion playoffs between Nairobi Stima and Ushuru on Saturday.
Though Nairobi Stima have a better goal difference than Ushuru, they complicated their play-off chances after drawing 1-1 to Kenya Police at the weekend in Naivasha.
The taxmen revived their hopes with a convincing 3-0 victory over relegated Nakuru AllStars at Afraha Stadium.
The victory saw Ushuru go level on points (68) with Nairobi Stima ahead this weekend's crucial season-ender matches.
Interestingly, Ushuru were in cruise control for much of the season before they started to fade away midway through the second leg.
Stima will be up against KCB at Toyoyo as Ken Kenyatta's men welcome Bidco United in Machakos.
But just like the battle for the playoffs slot, the fight to avoid the relegation playoffs went down to the wire in the Premier League.
Save for Nakumatt, the quartet of Vihiga United (41), Nzoia Sugar (41), Chemelil Sugar (39) and Posta Rangers (38) avoided the playoffs after posting some favourable results in the scintillating season finale.
Vihiga defeated Nakumatt 2-0 as Nzoia also won 2-0 against AFC Leopards.
