Motorsport: Teenager Anwar set to light up Hill Climb competition

Abid Ganatra's Buggy speeds up the hill during the Round 1 of the Chloride Exide sponsored race.

Organisers of the Chloride Exide Hill Climb expect big entry list for the event to be  run on September 22-23.

Renowned rally drivers, established motorcycle and Quad riders will be joining hands in an event famous for high speeds on Uphill trends. It is about the oldest form of motorsport that originated in France over 100 years ago.

Nineteen-year-old, Hamza Anwar, who has already made a name in the Autocross and Two-wheel-drive rally championship, will be among the competitors scheduled for the next weekend’s event.

“I am celebrating two years in the sport having ventured in the 2wd and Open Class of the Autocross Championship and the F2 category in the KNRC,” said Anwar.

“My performance in the last Hill Climb was good before mechanical problem forced me out while I was lying third overall.”

Anwar will enter his modified Mitsubishi Lancer, which is now prepared as a Buggy with the aim of winning the Class.

The Hill Climb is a lapped event, unlike a traditional rally setup, organisers have chosen a prime viewing area for spectators to freely move around and enjoy the action all day.

The three-kilometer stretch is graded to make sure competitors achieve the highest speeds to try and set quickest time on the uphill stretch.

The stretch starts from the bottom of the hill at 1,900 meters to the top at 2,200 meters.
