Golf: Indiza takes lead at Safari Tour in Nyali

Mumias’ Dismas India yesterday rose from third place to lead day three of the Safari Tour golf tournament at par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course, Mombasa, on a score of 212 gross.

The long hitting Indiza sunk an eagle on the par four-seventh and four birdies on the first, tenth, eleventh and fifteenth holes on top of several pars in both nines.

Having hit a three over par 74 gross in the first round, Indiza but improved to a one over par 72 gross in the second round before finally hitting an excellent five under par 66 gross for the lead.

“I’m impressed with my scores in this round. And I hope to do better in the final round if the condition if the course remains the same,” said Indiza.

He was four strokes ahead of day one and two leader Eric Ooko of Royal Nairobi, who had a total of 216 gross after hitting a one over par 72 gross yesterday. Oooko was leading on a level par 71 gross and a two over par 73 gross in the previous rounds.

Windsor’s Rizwan Charania tied on 219 gross each with Muthaiga’s Greg Snow and Royal’s David Wakhu.

Twenty golfers featuring professionals and two Amateurs made the cut for the third and final round being played to today.

The golfers are hunting for a share of Sh1million in the four-day tournament organised by the Kenya Open Golf Limited to prepare  local golfers  into next years (March) Kenya Open Championships.

The Safari tour is a seven-leg series played countrywide featuring professionals, club members, amateurs and juniors with a prize kitty of Sh1millions in each leg.
