Arsene Wenger will not be taking over as manager of Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng.

The Frenchman will end his 22-year stay at Arsenal at the end of the season and has been linked with a clutch of other jobs.

One of which is a big-money move to the Far East, but Shandong have moved to confirm they will not be his next destination.

"We are surprised to learn from our friends online that Mr Wenger will be transferring to our club," Shandong said in a posting on Weibo.

"Should we prepare a welcome dinner for him? We're afraid the Professor won't be a fan of our local style barbecue, so we are not inviting him over. We're very comfortable with our own Professor Li."

Wenger previously worked in Asia having coached Nagoya Grampus Eight in Japan before switching to Highbury in September 1996.

High-profile managers to move to China in recent years include Marcello Lippi, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Manuel Pellegrini, as well as former England bosses Fabio Capello and Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Shandong currently sit second in the Chinese Super League, a point
