This is why Chelsea board hopes Conte quits before he is sacked

Under-pressure Antonio Conte could not lead his Chelsea side to victory over West Ham on Saturday at the London Stadium as David Moyes’ men hold The Blues to a 1-1 draw.

It has undoubtedly been a miserable season for the last year’s Premier League Champions who also lost 3-1 to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge last Sunday 1. They are now 10 points behind Spurs who are currently fourth in the Premier League table.

After Sunday’s draw, Conte told his players that he was bored of telling them to be clinical and score more than one goal.

He was quoted by the Daily Mail saying, 'You must be clinical and score. Football is simple. If you score, you win.

'Otherwise, if you score only once, you stay in the balance - especially in England. I'm repeating this many times and I'm getting bored.

'You're listening always to the same: not clinical. I'm very frustrated and I hope my players go home and stay frustrated because, in this way, we have the right mentality.

'Otherwise, if we accept this result and say we were unlucky today, we are not building anything positive for the future.'

It was earlier believed that the Italian manager will see it through to the end of the season, as he seeks to win the FA Cup trophy with Chelsea before he is sacked.

However, concerns over players’ motivation levels between now and the end of the season came up after the draw against the Hammers dealt a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Chelsea’s board would prefer the 48-years-old quit on his own will rather than sucking him and forcing them to pay him the remainder of his £9million a year deal. Conte’s contract with the club ends next summer.

There were claims that Conte said he would accept the Italy national team manager with open arms, however, he came out to deny such talks insisting that he will ‘respect his contract at Chelsea.’

It was also believed that PSG were interested in his services but after the Spanish giants appeared to strike a deal with Thomas Tuchel, his options have been reduced.
