Liverpool have suffered a huge injury blow as Mo Salah limped out of their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Manchester City.

The Egyptian played just six minutes of the second half before receiving treatment on the sideline, but could not continue and limped down the tunnel with a groin problem.

Salah had opened the scoring in the first half as the Reds ran riot against Pep Guardiola's side.

He made it 1-0 early on before strikes from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane put Jurgen Klopp's men three to the good before the break.

The goal was Salah's 38th of an incredible debut campaign on Merseyside in just 42 games and he would be a huge miss for Saturday's Merseyside derby and the second leg at the Etihad next week.

Manchester City's evening started badly before a ball was even kicked after a hostile Anfield welcome saw their team bus damaged.

Missiles were thrown at the coach as it arrived at the ground, with City claiming they were forced to draft in a replacement. The original bus was seen leaving the stadium at half-time.

Liverpool released a statement condemning the scenes while UEFA are poised to launch an investigation.
