Top seeds Homeboyz displayed power and skills to edge out Mwamba RFC 28-0 and retain the Great Rift 10-aside rugby title at the Nakuru Athletic Club over the weekend.

Head coach Paul Murunga said adequate preparations was the secret to their second victory on the trot.

“We prepared well for this tournament and the title was ours to lose from the first match," said Murunga.

"We focused on one match at a time and we did not underrate any of our opponents. This strategy worked well up to the final match."

Their splendid show saw Kevin Atandi being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Mark Wandeto bagged the Most Promising Player trophy.

In the pool matches, the Deejays defeated Western Bulls 46-0 in their opening match, dismissed Makueni RFC 36-0 in their second, before defeating Kabras Sugar 24-0 to top their group with maximum nine points.

In the quarterfinals, Homeboyz defeated hosts Nakuru RFC 25-5 and won 29-5 against Menengai Oilers in the semifinals.

In the final, Homeboyz scored through Mark Wandeto, Johnston Olindi (two tries) and Leonard Mugaisi, while Mohammed Omollo made the conversions.

On their part, Mwamba defeated Kabras Sugar 17-12 in the other semi.
