AFC Leopards will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run in the Kenyan Premier League to five games when they battle unpredictable Tusker in Kericho, today (4.15pm).
The highly anticipated clash will be preceded by an early kick off (2pm) match between Zoo Kericho and newcomers Wazito.
Leopards, go into the encounter with interim coach Dennis Kitambi facing an uncertain future in the den despite giving them a new lease of life since succeeding his boss Robert Matano last month.
The two clubs meet each other in a very contrasting form.
While Leopards are in a fine run of form with a four-game winning streak, 14th placed Tusker — with a paltry six points from seven outings — are winless in their last four matches.
But as Leopards will be looking to go level on points (19) with leaders Gor Mahia, the brewers will be out to compensate for their devastating 5-4 defeat to Sofapaka in their last outing in Machakos.
Aware of the task lying ahead of them, Leopards attacking midfielder Whyvonne Isuza says they must be at their best and take today’s match seriously.
“Without doubt we are in a good form and everybody here is ambitious, ready to give his best and help the club win,” Isuza told Standard Sports.
“Tusker is great team with young and quality players, so we expect them to come strong on us. But our target is to go back at the top. That is why we are going to approach this game with the seriousness it deserves.”.
For Tusker coach Sam Timbe, today’s match could end up turning a round their season fortunes.
“We need to pick up from the Sofapaka disappointment and face Leopards. We should have won our last match, but inexperience somehow cost uu,” said Timbe. [Rodgers Eshitemi]
