A bizarre incident clouded the Ligue 1 match pitting French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Nantes when French referee Tony Chapron responded to an accidental push by a player, with a kick and a sending off.

PSG launched a counter attack on the hosts and defender Diego Carlos accidentally pushed Chapron to the ground after which they both fell down. But Chapron responded by waving a kick at Carlos before showing the Brazilian a second yellow card and sending him off with a red card.

The behavior of the match official has elicited outrage from many people who have taken to social media to harshly criticize the Frenchman for overstepping his professional limits.

While addressing the French media, Nantes President Waldemar Kita said that when he confronted the match official about the incident, he denied having planned to kick the player but reacted to a push that he felt behind his back.

Chapron defended himself that his leg that was seen flying in the air was as a result of him attempting to get on his feet, adding that he had no intention to attack the player.

Nantes defender Valentin Rongier was quoted by the French media demanding for action to be taken against the referee. Rongier termed the action deliberate that if the player would be involved then he could get a whopping 10-match ban.

Other sports personalities who condemned the incident include former English international gary Lineker and former Spanish goal keeper Iker Casillas. Angel Di Maria scored the only goal that gifted the French league leaders PSG with the win.
