Paul Tergat, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya President, has launched Marketing and Fundraising Commission to support various programmes and processes that include the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, in April next year.

Tergat, the five-time world cross country champion, said they will ensure a broad qualification of sports disciplines to the club games.

“One of the ambitious goals we set ourselves to realise as we assumed office was to ensure that our sports people stay focused on their business of representing our country and winning medals.

“We also need to ensure we work towards qualification of broad sports disciplines that will return home with medals besides strengthening our traditional domains,” Tergat said.

“In order for this to become a reality, availability of resources, especially monetary, is essential.

“This will enable NOCK to support the various programmes and processes that will lead to our success in global games, in this case the Commonwealth Games in Gold coast, Australia in April 2018,” he said.

Among the members are Central Bank of Kenya chairman Mohammed Nyaoga and lawyer Donald Kipkorir.[Jonathan Komen]
