The attention of the athletics world will shift to Monaco tonight as the Mediterranean Principality prepares to host the IAAF Athletics Awards 2017.
The annual celebration honours the world’s best athletes, whose achievements contributed to another unforgettable year.
Nearly 80 of the world’s best athletes will gather to celebrate the past year and also meet journalists covering the numerous event.
Athletes expected include recently-minted world champions Mutaz Barshim, Ekaterini Stefanidi, Yulimar Rojas, Elijah Manangoi, Hellen Obiri, Luvo Manyonga and Maria Lasitskene.
Meanwhile, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has unveiled a programme to reward Kenya’s champions at the World Marathon Majors with a paid vacation to top tourist destinations in the country.
Yesterday, KTB Chief Executive Betty Radier said the award is in recognition of the important role the athlete’s play in selling Kenya abroad. “Athletes are undoubtedly our nation’s best ambassadors,” he said.
