More than 250 golfers will take part in the 2017 Furniture Palace golf tournament at the par-72 Vet Lab course tomorrow.

The prevailing cold and rainy season notwithstanding, club captain Ratesh Rakhani said the day-long 18-hole Stableford event, sponsored by Furniture Palace, has attracted a large field of golfers, among them 33 guests.

He said the new 18-hole golf course that consists of well-built greens with a wide choice of hybrid blend bent-grass compatible with the prevailing weather, was ready to host the event.

“It’s indeed a big event and everything has been put in place to ensure that all golfers enjoy the day. This championship course has large greens and good surfaces, which guarantees a good time for the golfers,” said Lakhani.

Among the guests expected to take part in the tournament is Standard Group’s acting Chief Executive Officer, Orlando Lyomu.

Lyomu, who is a member of Limuru Golf Club and plays off handicap 26, will be accompanied by the company’s Commercial Manager Salim Bwika.

Bwika is a member of Nyali Golf Club and plays off handicap 27.

The company’s Human Resource Manager Nicholas Siwatom of Royal Nairobi Club (handicap 22) will also be in action.

Siwatom said he had trained well and was optimistic about winning the guest prize.

The team of sponsors will be led by Chief Executive Officer Rahul Haria, playing off handicap 20. Playing at home, Haria will be praying for a smooth ride.

Haria said Furniture Palace were happy to sponsor the tourney for the first time and expressed optimism about returning next year.

Meanwhile, the par-72 Sigona Golf Club will host the annual Prime Bank Golf Tournament tomorrow.

More than 220 golfers, including Prime Bank guests who are holders of the Visa Golf Card, are expected to take part.
