The ongoing Nairobi Governor’s Cup football contest is at County level with remaining contestants eyeing the Sh1.5 million winner’s prize.

Opening the County contests at the weekend in the Nairobi West zone were experienced Vapour Youth, who edged True Gunners (NYSA) 3-2 in a pulsating battle at Posta Grounds, Ngong Road.

True Gunners found the back of the net just two minutes into the match through Godwin Bandi. Their lead was doubled 2-0 by John Mutua before half time break.

Vapour took advantage of the break to mend their mistakes and this was reflected on resumption as Robert Sero levelled the scores with two quickfire goals in the 51st and 55th minutes.

Davis Agesa sealed the victory for Vapour in the 64th minute.

While lamenting his team’s inability to keep the lead, True Gunners coach Fred Otieno said: “We blew up the lead with our poor control of aerial balls. Our makeshift defense was also weak.”

In another match played at the same venue, Kibera Lexus nipped a 1-0 win against Amazon Tigers.

A last minute defensive lapse gifted Kibera Lexus’ Genaro Omondi with a chance to win the match.

In the women’s category, Amani Queens from Kibera thumped Sunderland Samba from Langata 4-1. A brace by Salome Drailler and a goal apiece by Irene Namale and Ajiambo Watang’ia did the job for Amani Queens. [Erick Ochieng’]
