Schools: Menengai send a warning to their opponents

Menengai High School has sent a stern warning to their opponents after whipping Chepkoroniswa of West Pokot 39-0 in rugby sevens as the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Term Two A Games kicked off at Hill School in Eldoret yesterday.

The former regional champions landed seven tries to lead Pool C with maximum points through Hillary Malwei, Steve Odondi, Austin Sikutwa, Anthony Ndung’u, Davis Ochieng’, and Bonaventure Wasonga while Anthony Kibet and Ndung’u  made two conversions for the huge score as they made known their intention to reach the knock-out stages.

“Our aim is to qualify for the National Championships and the win reflects our seriousness, although strong opposition came from Bwake, Simotwo, Baringo, and Kapsabet Boys,” said Menengai coach Evans Adenya.

Longisa of Bomet walloped Chepkoroniswa 24-0 in the latter’s second match.

In Pool A, Narok Boys made a foul start, losing 5-17 to Kipsangui of Uasin Gishu.

Narok Boys suffered in their second match against Bwake of Trans Nzoia, who hammered them 29-0.

In boys Under 16 football, Ortum of West Pokot saw off Endana of Laikipia 1-0 in Pool C before Beusang of Kajiado smashed Boito of Bomet 2-0 in Pool A.

In boys’ handball, Kitany of Elgeyo Marakwet beat Laikipia’s Ziwani 18-15 in Pool B.

In girls handball, former national champions St Francis Cheptarit of Nandi edged out St Kevin’s from Turkana 34-4 to take an early lead in Pool A with three points.

Cheptil of Nandi defeated Moi High Kalokol of Turkana 57-4 in the first Pool B match ahead of the duel involving Kaptagat of Elgeyo Marakwet, who dismissed St Cecilia Chebareria of West Pokot 38-17 in netball.

Kipkenyo of Uasin Gishu beat Gateru 21-5 in Pool A.

Beusang of Kajiado narrowly defeated Marinyim of Bomet in a Pool A netball match.
