Raheem Sterling heckled by own fans during live unveiling of Liverpool's new home kit

Raheem Sterling was left in no doubt as to what Liverpool fans think of his contract dispute when he was heckled during a live unveiling of the club's new strip for next season.

Sterling was one of four first team players to take the stage at the New Balance kit launch event at Anfield in front of around 500 supporters, along with Daniel Sturridge, Simon Mignolet and Martin Skrtel.

He was cheered when he appeared, but then when the 20-year-old was interviewed about the new design, one frustrated fan in the audience shouted out: “Make sure we see you in it next year.”

That brought whoops and cheers from the fans, and the loudest noise of the afternoon at the event to publicize Liverpool's new deal with Boston based sportswear firm New Balance.

Sterling has caused upset amongst the fans since doing a BBC interview where he appeared to suggest he dreams of winning honours, which was interpreted by many as a hint he wanted to do that elsewhere, after refusing to even discuss contract terms until the end of the season, despite negotiations that have been going on for six months.

The England winger looked sheepish, but did not acknowledge the heckle or the cheers of the crowd. Instead, he spoke about his delight at getting to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final showdown with Aston Villa.

“It's extra special for me because obviously it's at Wembley and that's my home town, so I am really looking forward to it,” he said.

“Getting to the semi-final is great, but we want to push on.”

Even his comments will worry Liverpool fans because he has been linked with Arsenal, and the speculation has centered on the idea that the youngster would like to return home and finds the idea of a move to the Emirates attractive for that reason.
