Football Kenya Federation (FKF) says it has created an environment for free and fair election during its Special General Meeting (SGM) set for this Saturday in Eldoret.

National Executive Committee (Nec) member Tom Alila assured all the interested candidates that democracy will prevail during the election.

“Let all interested candidates for various positions carry their campaigns maturely and show Kenyans that they are ready to assume the responsibilities ahead if elected to office,” said Ali in an interview in Mombasa during a Premier League match between Bandari and Western Stima at Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday.

Three positions will be up for grabs after its previous holders were either suspended or expelled. Vice President, Nec member for Coast and Chairmanship post for Nairobi branch will be contested at the SGM.

Acting FKF Vice President Robert Asembo and former KFF Vice Chairman Twaha Mbarak are engaged in a two-horse race for the vice presidency.

Alila assured the candidates that democracy would be followed to the latter.
“Democracy means ‘rule by the people’ and this will be exercised. We will not impose leaders on our delegates,” assured Alila.

He added that there are five days before the delegates cast their votes and urged them to scrutinise all the interested candidates to make wise decision on Saturday. He said the interested candidates were free to ‘woo’ delegates as Nec members have no voting powers. “The entire exercise will be at the hands of the delegates who will decide their leaders. As resolved at the Annual General Meeting and Nec members’ meeting, the election will be free and fair,” said Alila.

Alila who is a Nec member for Nyanza urged Coast delegates to nominate a person who can help football grow in the region.

“A true leader is one who is ready to work for the welfare of the people and the Coast Nec seat should be occupied by someone who has passion for football,” added Alila.
The official said FKF will be ready to work with all elected candidates. “We do not have preferred candidates. The floor is open and we will welcome those elected to work with us and take football to the next level,” said Alila.
