KPA women team collect maximum points in SuperSport KBF league

Nairobi,Kenya:Visiting Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) from Mombasa collected four maximum points in the SuperSport-sponsored Kenya Basketball Federation league played in Nairobi at the weekend.

KPA won against Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCA-U) 84-19 and against Mennonites 83-12 at Nyayo National Stadium.

Lucy Ohanga and Violet Wanyama were outstanding as the visitors demolish hapless Mennonites in the one sided women Premier League match.

Hellen Oketch scored 13 points for the winners while Dorothy Egesa gave the varsity side 11 points in their duel with KCA-U.

MIXED RESULTS

However, KPA men posted mixed results, winning 70-63 against Mennonites and narrowly losing 63-65 to Blazers.

In the Zuku sponsored Universities League, defending women basketball champions, The United States International University (USIU-A), made it three wins out of three in the Nairobi Conference contest played at the University of Nairobi grounds as the games entered its third week.

For the second weekend in a row, USIU–A coach George Mayienga opted to give his youthful side a toast of experience, resting star player Hilda Indasi, but the Flames never flickered, roasting Mount Kenya University (MKU) 59-06, in a match that could have passed for a practice match for the victors.

Georgia Adhiambo and Cynthia Frankouda showed flamboyance on the day, with Adhiambo playing the chief engineer and Frankouda being at the end of the moves, scoring 10 points for her side.

LOUSY LAYUP

MKU were made to look like amateurs, managing only two points from a lousy layup in the first quarter in comparison to USIU-A’s 15.

The inexperience of the Thika based outfit was being exposed by a series of countless turnovers and missed free throws that could have saved their blushes and given them a decent score line.

The third quarter was no different as the victors managed ten points against MKU’s three, seized from a lucky a layup and a free throw.

Sensing a third straight win, coach Mayienga pulled out his entire starting squad and the new set never disappointed, completing the job with a massive 18 points in the last quarter to end with a classy win.

This is the third blazing outing for the Flames, who humbled UoN in the league opener at Nyayo, before. They followed it up with another outstanding victory against Daystar last weekend at CUEA grounds.

“I feel so proud that the girls have the fire power to keep winning. This is a good sign of the depth in our squad and I am excited by the trend,” Indasi said after the match.
