Jamaican-born reggae and dancehall artiste, Shalkal, is calling upon upcoming artistes to take criticism positively now that the year has just started. In an exclusive chat with Standard Entertainment, the 38-year-old artiste, who has gained recognition for his music inspired by his Jamaican heritage, says that for an artiste to emerge at the top, they must be willing to put in the work. To him, success comes from consistency and authenticity.

"Be yourself. Put 100 percent in your work and learn to take constructive criticism. As you plan your year and set new targets, take time to reflect inwardly also. What are you doing differently?" he says.
